Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference is one of the tech world’s most anticipated events.That excitement reaches a fever pitch in the hour leading up to the event. To entertain the audience while they waited we created a hour-long animation featuring a crowd of developer characters. As a nod to the developers, we used Apple’s Swift programming language to bring them to life.

The animation was screened for a live audience at Apple’s 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, CA. Hundreds of animated characters, modeled after the developers themselves, interacted with each other for a full hour before the opening address. This was accomplished by using code to give the characters minds of their own.

The animation exceeded its purpose of invigorating the Apple faithful. Influential developers in attendance recognized the animation was created in code and shared it with their followers outside the event.
