CampaignDescription

The idea was to not only make a Christmas classic available to the visually impaired, but also to produce it in an entirely new way.

Though Described Video exists for many Christmas films, one had never been made for Rudolph. To make the film more accessible and enjoyable for children, the narration was performed by a kid, something that is not traditionally done in this category.

Execution

The narration was performed and recorded at TA2 Sound + Music studios. The film was then sent

around to industry colleagues and clients on December 20th.

Shortly after, the film was distributed nationally by Universal, airing on Treehouse TV, YTV and NBC December 20th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th.

Outcome

Over the four air dates, Rudolph was viewed in described video by over 758,000 people across the country. Though it was intended as a one time special, Universal has expressed interest to run it every Christmas from here on out.

Relevancy

The Rudolph Described Video was developed as a Christmas card for TA2 Sound + Music to be given out to both clients and industry colleagues.

Strategy

Typically, industry Christmas cards are aimed at colleagues and peers, however this year TA2 was looking to capture an audience completely outside of advertising. The film aired on YTV and Treehouse TV with the typical audience being small children and pre teens.

To make the film more accessible for that demographic, the film was narrated by a twelve year old girl, where most Described Video is narrated by an adult.

The film was promoted through Ta2’s social channels and on TreeHouse TV and YTV before the air dates.

Synopsis

Every year agencies and production houses create Christmas cards to share among their peers. Usually they consist of industry inside jokes or personalized swag; however this year TA2 wanted to create a card that would actually do some good. They developed the first ever Described Video for the 1964 film Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Though originally intended to be an industry holiday card, the film was picked up by three major children’s television networks and aired nationally over Christmas.
