Codeology is an open-source project that reimagines code by bringing it to life visually. The combination of coding languages in each Github project determines it's look, therefore, each creation is original.

Braintree's mission is to enable beautiful commerce so people and ideas can flourish. For developers, Braintree's code lies at the heart of this promise. To raise our esteem with this audience we worked closely with developers to understand their relationship to code. While our competitors treat code as a dry utility, our developers consider code an art form that translates ideas into world changing businesses. In building Codeology, we kept the following principles in mind:

Coding is building something, it's something to put out into the world.

Code is creative–it's an expression of the individual who wrote it.

To bring these principles to life we wanted to build a tool that would celebrate the imagination of individual developers through content they could proudly share to the developer community.

Codeology pulls data from GitHub's public API and creates visuals using WebGL, Three.js, and GLSL shaders. Shape and color represent an individual language, with size being proportionate to how many characters of code were written. In its current form, Codeology recognizes and uniquely renders 100 different coding languages.
