For two hours, on July 10, we converted a rundown Community Centre in Hackney into the D Rose Jump Store – a pop up shop filled with hundreds of pairs of free basketball shoes on shelves 10ft high.

The only member of staff was D Rose himself, and the only currency accepted was commitment and sweat.

The store gave an opportunity, and role model, to a generation more used to being demonised by the media and ignored by society. It was their chance to show themselves, and the world, how talented they might be at a game many had never played.
