Mars Nordics were facing a serious challenge: How to inform all employees in a timely manner, with more than half of the organisation's sales force on the road and hardly ever physically at headquarters. Intranet and email was not sufficiently utilized by employees and low information level was hampering satisfaction.
Based on an internal quantitative analysis of technological usage, we designed the solution to be mobile and possible to access 24/7, regardless of location.
The Nordic region is one of the most technologically savvy regions in the world, so we designed the solution around the latest app technology, specifically designed for iPhones and iPads.
The solution and its impact has exceeded all expectations. Now in the apps second phase, more than 75% of all information is read within 24 hours of posting and 99% of all employees’ state they are proud to work for Mars Nordics.
Implementation
Mars Nordics committed to designing an app 100% tailored to their own specific needs, as oppose to applying a more generic turnkey solution. Following satisfaction surveys, this proves to be the single most important lever behind its smashing success.
Each section on the app was designed based on a prioritization strategy and usability requirements in different situations. From pure information about organisational changes to digitization of the employee handbook and access to all materials presented at information meetings.
Each Monday, a thorough analysis of the previous week's traffic is made and distributed to the internal communication teams. Based on this data, we track which sections and what messages drive traffic and engagement and use this information to optimize content the following week.
It has massively exceeded all targets and is now in the process of being rolled out to numerous markets globally within Mars Inc.
Outcome
Mars Nordics has committed to this solution and today 100% of all written internal communication is channelled through the app. We are planning further developments, including a streaming service so information meetings can be broadcasted live to employees, as well as a picture and upload service, to document interesting situations in real time, i.e., promotions in supermarkets with relevance to sales teams.
The app has been solidly anchored internally and is being used daily by nearly all employees as the natural way to stay informed, whether the information is being pushed via the notification application or looked up by the employees.
The most exciting development prospect will be taking the app from the Nordic Region and applying it globally. This process has been initiated and expectations are high.
