We developed a software and hardware integrated with a cap based on insights of head's movements that we mapped to predicts that someone is falling sleep, based on an accelerometer and a gyroscope the cap identifies the movements of the truck driver’s alerting him in case of sleepy behavior.

MediaStrategy

During four months we have developed a research that analyzed the driver's movements. The study was conducted on the roads and laboratories with more than 5,000 quilometers and over 60 hours of monitoring to map all the situations. The idea of the study was to create a database of movements that allowed us to identify which ones are related to the duties of the job and which ones mean lack of sleep.

After mapping, we took a software-based data to the cap that identifies the sleep movements through an accelerometer and alerts the driver in three warnings: sound, light and vibration.

When the sensor detects a inclination of head in vertical or horizontal axis, for a certain period of time, the cap alerts. What allows it to identify hundreds of movements in an angle of 360 degrees.

Outcome

Since its launch, SafeCap became news in more than 40 countries, had over 437.000.000 impressions, a reach of 117.000.000 people and over $21.000.000 in earned media.

Researches with truck drivers were also positive. They feel that the accessory can contribute to minimize accidents on the roads. Another research indicated that SafeCap can contribute on education of stop driving and take a rest.

The product was launched at FENATRAN 2017, the largest truck's fair on Latin America, with over 6.000 product pre-orders.

Relevancy

It is a project that uses a neural network that learned human drive behavior and uses real-time data to recognize patterns of sleeping to save lives.

Strategy

Ford Trucks data driven strategy was based on the mission of taking care drivers life as the most important thing.

The first important data came from the insight of truck driver's profession is one of that most kill people in Brazil with 22 deaths in 100.000 truck driver's. Crossing with the base of truck accessories we confirmed that 82% of the community uses caps on a daily routine.

Data was a huge inspiration since the beginning so we conduct an extense research to map and interpretates data of head's movement that indicates when someone is or not falling sleep reaching the target at the specific moment of the biggest cause of accidents.

Synopsis

Truck driver is the profession with more deaths in Brazil and the biggest part of these deaths happen because they fall asleep while driving, which puts in risk not only their lives, but also the lives of anyone on the roads. With the purpose to slow down with these numbers, Ford Trucks realized that was urgent to go further its current products and found out a solution in something that accompany the truck drivers in every trip.
