The Flemish Lawyers Association wanted to increase awareness on online agreements.As it goes with online applications, users have to agree with Terms&Conditions. Everybody does it, few read it.

Implementation

The santamatic is a microsite that confronted consumers with that.After filling in some details, uploading your picture and ‘agreeing’, their face would be morphed into an 80 year old Santa. But it didn’t. Instead, a man tells them they just agreed with a series of ridiculous obligations.At the end, he reveals he’s a lawyer and that you have to be careful with what you sign.Even online.

Outcome

Out of the 24.000 visitors plus, of the first 5 days after the launch, only 27 percent actually read the agreements. That’s less than 1 out of 4.

We sent out these confronting results to the national press. They picked it up immediately.

Relevancy

Consumers are not aware of the fact that online agreements are also legal agreements. With real obligations. Just like any other contract.

The Santamatic confronts us straight with our careless behavior.

After seeing the movie, you could send it to a friend including a ridiculous obligation added by yourself and wonder if your friend would read the terms and conditions.
