Synopsis

The objective was to promote Channel 4's "Street Summer" season - a series of programmes celebrating Britain's street culture (street dance, art, music and sport). The target audience was C4's 16-34 demographic.

We wanted to highlight and feature stars of the season - all of the performers you see in the promo were featured in the season. We put all the talent on one street together, performing. We utilised the aesthetic of Google's street view as an interesting way of moving from one vignette to the next, a method which we hoped felt fresh and reflective of the vibrant street culture. The promo itself was shot using 3 Red cameras shooting at 4k. One camera setup was a mirror rig with two Red cameras with a 18mm and a longer prime; the other at 8mm. The team would then undistort the 18mm plates and composite them into the 8mm 9k resolution LatLong stitch. Once all the camera moves were applied they added zooms and composited the various static passers by that were shot on 8mm. They then matched the Google Street view "warp" by closely studying the way it tears, blurs and distorts the image between the two plates.
