Overview

Describe any restrictions or regulations regarding Health & Wellness communications in your country/region including:

This film is an international crossplatform campaign, in the sense that the 12 European NGO's that were behind the campaign could use it to create awareness around the topic of sex trafficking.

Health & Wellness work must demonstrate how it meets the criteria 'life-changing creativity'. Why is your work relevant for Health & Wellness?

Voiceless Women was released on 18th november 2018 on the EU International Anti-trafficking day. Within two weeks of release of the film anonymous tips led to reporting of two houses with female victims of sex trafficking, and the women was helped to safety by Danish NGO Newlives.

Trafficking.eu is a project sponsored by NEWLIVES on behalf of all European NGO´s and their work to fight trafficking.

?

NEWLIVES is a small but very ambitious non-governmental organization (NGO) located in Copenhagen, Denmark. With our concept of empowerment, we specialize in providing women with backgrounds in prostitution and women who are former victims of trafficking a new self-image and work to strengthen them, so they are able to get out of prostitution.

Write a short summary of what happens in the film

Voiceless women show 6 different women, in different locations associated with forced sex work.

The women are depicted as sex workers while lip-syncing to authentic male clients sex-forum reviews of female sex workers.

In 6 rooms the film unfolds the true horrors of forced sex work and the misogynist male client view. In the film the audience get an unfiltered perspective of how the women in the darker part of the sex industry are viewed and what they have to deal with.

The reviews in the film are all true and directly transcribed from real closed online forums.

Cultural/Context information for the jury

Voiceless women is thought to be an International film, mostly targeted European or Western countries to create awareness and financially support to the NGO's working with the victims of prostitution and trafficking.

Tell the jury about visual effects / type(s) of animation used and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.

We wanted to create a number of abstract visuals in the film.

VFX shot 1 / Human Body Pile

A huge pile of female bodies to symbolise the lack of human empathy,

that these clients share of the women they buy for pleasure.

VFX shot 2 / Womb

We crafted the womb to be a scary and a safe place at the same time.

The challenge was to make it beautiful, peaceful, lonely and painful.

We used After Effects to make both shots.

Tell the jury anything relevant about the direction. Do not name the director.

The direction of the film is meant to really show these women as voiceless. Some of them show spite or anger in their body language others have just given up.

We really wanted to convey af feeling of simply being trapped and unable to speak up. Every time the women open their mouth only male misogynist, condescending reviews come out. The key problem is that trafficked sex workers aren't able to speak up, because they have nowhere to turn. many of them are illegal and are afraid of their pimp or to be sent back home.

The performance is staged towards the viewer in the way that the performers intense eye contact communicates the spite, fear or disgust they feel, however the only thing that comes out is their clients reviews.
