Compaq did not sponsor the show - 10 others did! It was the only brand to have its name mentioned by the host!
All the Compaq-branded computers of the host as well as contestants were shown over 52 episodes, hijacking the sponsor’s glory and engaging the audience with SRK’s address of “Compaq” in various conversations - Compaq Da/Guru/Chaudhury/Janab/Devi to appeal to all the socio-cultural segments of the Indian subcontinent.
Outcome
Apart from 80% recall association(Delhi/Mumbai), it gave 9-15 TRPs on Star Plus (68% PrimeTime shares) , reaching 23 mn households . Star Vijay (33% share in TamilNadu) along with 0.8 Million $ PR value (Source:GenesisPR). Sponsors paid 1.6 Million$-3120 secs compared to Compaq’s 0.8 Million$-2000 secs plus computer branding, SRK-mentions, and promos worth 1.2 Million$.
