To illustrate just how far we’ve come and build excitement for where the revolutionary streaming service was about to take us, we chronicled the evolution of recorded sound. From the first scratches into Edison’s phonograph, to the digital revolution, every great advancement in music was brought to life in vivid detail. But as phonograph turned into record player and 8-track into cd, we weren’t simply witnessing a catalog of devices, but the effect those devices had on people. Youth, sexual, and Civil Rights movements played out in each frame, transforming the film into something far greater than a mere history lesson. The film proved that great advancements in music are both technical and cultural revolutions.
