Description

Carrefour gave real football fans the unique opportunity to play against the Belgian Red Devils whenever they wanted, at home, on a one-of-a-kind 3D printed foosball table. First, the real Red Devils were scanned in 3D, modelled to fit inside a foosball table, printed and hand-painted one by one. To decide who the other team became, we created a Facebook game to bet on the Red Devils’ matches at Euro 2016.

The winner of the contest and 10 of his friends were also scanned, modelled, 3D printed and hand-painted one by one. Thanks to Carrefour Belgium, 11 lucky bastards can now take on the Belgian Red Devils… whenever they want!

Execution

For EURO 2016, Carrefour Belgium created the first 3D printed foosball table. First, we scanned the real Red Devils and modelled them to size. We then 3D printed each player and hand-painted them one by one. And the other team? On Facebook, we launched a game to bet on the Red Devils’ matches at Euro 2016. The winner and 10 of his friends were also scanned, modelled, 3D printed and hand-painted one by one.

These 11 lucky bastards can now take on the Belgian Red Devils… whenever they want!

Outcome

With a small total budget of just €10.000, the campaign generated a stunning 3 million impressions and touched over 1 million unique users. In total 17.127 predictions about the games for the Belgian Red Devils were made. Half of these shared their predictions with their friends on Facebook. Impressive figures for a nation only counting 11 million people.

This enabled Carrefour Belgium to promote itself as a retailer with a true Belgian character, giving them a stronger competitive position in the chauvinistic Belgian retail landscape during EURO 2016.
