CampaignDescription

When National Geographic launched a feature magazine about Yellowstone National Park, they wanted to showcase the scientific data and video footage collected from bear collars through an online experience.

National Geographic subscribers would get a sneak peak of the experience through the magazine. The experience was featured in both the physical and online magazine.

MediaStrategy

Working with National Geographic’s team of editors, journalists, producers, and researchers, we’ve gathered this incredible footage into an engaging online narrative focused on the distinct paths that each bear roamed. Utilizing the geo-coordinate data captured with every 20-seconds of footage, we’re able to pinpoint the bears to the exact geography of Yellowstone.

Outcome

The website acted as a digital extension of the magazines article and helped create brand value for National Geographic as being a forward thinking publications and giving value adding experience to their printed magazine.

The bear research itself was revolutionary and gained new insights for both magazine readers and bear enthusiasts. The site was featured across a large variety of medias (with no media spend) and gained a lot of attention from new potential subscribers.

Relevancy

National Geopgrahic equipped 4 bears with a special camera and GPS tracking equipment. And gained unique insights into how the bears roam within the Yellowstone National Park. We took this data - and made it available for the National Geographic readers - and gave it a visual context. To make it easily understandable and accessible to everyone.

Strategy

Our challenge was turn this scientific data into an immersive and story-driven online experience that captures the users and shows them the life of a bear - from a bear's eye-view.

Synopsis

Following two grizzlies and two black bears equipped with special camera collars in Yellowstone National Park, researchers and Nat Geo readers are getting an unprecedented view into the life of a bear – from the bear’s eye-view.

We see the remarkable journeys of these 4 bears as they cover great distances, encounter predators, their own kind, and even people. We discover what they eat and how they use the beautiful and expansive landscape of Yellowstone.
