CampaignDescription

Can big data solve the problem of trucking accidents? Yes. Because the more data we have, the smarter the system can prevent fatigued driving.

Come Home Safely is a Baidu-led nationwide project that aims to reduce truck driving fatalities. It uses several core AI technologies such as image recognition, face tracking, and speech synthesis to monitor the real-time data captured from the driver, for the detection and prevention of driving fatigue.

Come home safely is world's first approach using AI and big data to make it extremely reliable.

MediaStrategy

First, Baidu built a fatigue monitoring system and fed it with data of fatigue driving samples from different ages, skin colors and facial features.

Then the system uses several core AI technologies such as image recognition, face tracking and speech synthesis to grade and detect driver fatigue.

Furthermore, Baidu integrates data from the steering wheel, pedals, and the environment to build a system that is able to make a final judgment by leveraging multi-layer RNN and CNN modeling with deep integration of multiple data.

That's why the system is extremely precise and reliable.

Outcome

Come Home Safely was launched at 16th November 2017 during the Baidu World Conference by Baidu’s CEO, Robin Li.

By the time of launch, the project has signed up with over 8 organizations including Kinglong, FAW and BYD. Come Home Safely received free promotion from 36 media outlets.

In 2018, Baidu aims to install the Come Home Safely device in 200,000 trucks and 1000, 000 by the year 2020.

Relevancy

Baidu is a leading tech giant in China making use of big data to develop AI technology.

Baidu is China's Google, owning a huge amount of data through the search engine. By feeding data to the deep learning networks, Baidu now has successfully trained the best AI system in China.

Come Home Safely is a project that uses Baidu's several core AI technologies such as image recognition, face tracking, and speech synthesis.

This project makes use of real-time data to grades and detects driver fatigue. In the end, it helps to guide them to safety during their long driving hours.

Strategy

Baidu is China's Google, it had acquired a huge amount of data through its search engine.

With these data, Baidu successfully built a very advanced AI system--Baidu Brain. The system has the capability to for image recognition, face tracking, and speech synthesis. Baidu's face recognition technology is listed in 10 breakthrough technology 2017 from MIT Technology Review.

The more data it received, the cleverer it gets. Baidu put its latest AI power into helping China reduce traffic accidents.

To build a responsible tech giant image there’s no better way to do so than using their AI technology for a good cause. Baidu believes with AI technology, many big social problems can be alleviated or solved.

Fatigued driving is a constant problem in China, with over 5,000 drivers killed every year. Baidu has discovered a way to solve this problem through AI technology.

Synopsis

Fatigued driving is the leading cause of truck accidents in China.

In 2016, there were more than 5,000 fatalities.

Baidu aims to shine the spotlight on this issue and make truck driving a safer occupation.
