Background

In Bolivia, there are only 27 ATMs for every 100,000 people

and they are only accessible to the most privileged.

In a region where the use of cash grew during the pandemic,

a game-changing solution was absolutely necessary.

Our main objective was to increase the number of ATMs at least in 100% the first year and democratize the access to money with a very low budget.

Strategy & Process

We needed to find a way to make cash more available on the go and build both a business and a social solution that had a positive impact in our society.

We tested different ways until we found the more intelligent, cheapest and effective one through the uncovering of a regional -note just local- behaviour: more than 70,000 taxi drivers and more than 10,000 delivery motorcycles use cash for their transactions. There was tons of money in the streets!

80% of banked people in Bolivia --and almost the same in the region--, take their money out of the bank every month in order to interact with cash.

The solution is simple: we have taken a move from UBERs game-play and started our own league in the financial world.

You ask for money and the driver with enough funds to make the delivery, accepts the order and takes the cash wherever people need it through gps localization features.

Uber has no taxis, AirBnb has no hotels and Blink has no ATMs and no money!

Experience & Implementation

We partnered with BCP Bank --leading bank of Perú and third in Bolivia-- and impacted immediately on their 650,000 clients with an active bank account at the moment. The goal is to partner with five of the major banks in Bolivia and in the future, with the major banks in the region.

We partnered too with YAIGO, the biggest delivery company in Bolivia and on the first day of launch, we had 4,000 brand new mobile ATMs in the streets.

We developed a world class application that includes a financial chat where you can also transfer money easily besides asking for cash delivery.

There is not another app in Latin America with this features and quality since we work with a development company that exports software to the United States.

On the other hand, Blink has a unique team. A banker, a financial expert, two systems engineers and a brand builder, turning the product into something unique too.

Business Results & Impact

We have just launched in late april of 2021 and we had incredible results until today:

- More than US$ 0.5MM reached in worldwide earned media before launching!

- Worldwide coverage in 21 specialized media.

- More than 1MM people impacted.

- 4000 brand new mobile ATMs on the first day of launch.

- 135% growth in just one day.

- US$ 32MM savings in ATMs installation.

- US$ 4MM savings in ATMs maintenance a year.

We accomplished IN JUST ONE DAY, our main objective that was planned for one year!
