Knowing that Orelsan is a fan of animation, we put him in the shoes of an acutal stop motion animator, and let him tell his own story with clay characters.

"Nothing can take me back more than the smell of play dough." Orelsan turns into a stop motion animator in his latest video "La Quête" retracing his life in a universe entirely made of modeling clay.

Orelsan is a French rapper, songwriter, record producer, actor and film director and one of the best-selling French artist in these past few years.

The purpose of this music video was to convey nostalgia and certain intimacy with Orelsan, singing his story without cheating. The most challenging part was to make a film that looks like one sequence shot that Orelsan made himself. All the stop motion sequences are one take, stop motion takes so long to shoot that we can’t really shoot extra. About the live action footage, once they had the good acting, good timing, the camera was managed to be locked at the right position, and didn’t leave a lot of choice.
