"The Raid” is a VR short prequel to the “24: Legacy” series premiere episode which debuted after the 2017 Super Bowl. The experience introduced viewers to some of the new cast and storyline of the series, all while donning a Gear VR headset in this six-minute action packed film.

"The Raid" transports viewers to Yemen, letting you follow along in an fast-paced raid led by Lieutenant Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins, “Straight Outta Compton”) and his team of Special Forces Soldiers against the compound of terrorist leader Ibrahim Bin-Khalid. The experience puts you in the center, with gunshots and explosions going off all around you.

Execution

“The Raid” launched on January 9th, 2017 via Samsung Gear VR and on the web as a 360° video. Gear VR owners could watch the full VR experience via the Samsung VR app from the Oculus app store.

The Samsung and Fox partnership additionally included “24: Legacy” product placement, social content and a premiere event at Samsung 837, the brand’s New York-based flagship tech center, featuring Corey Hawkins. Samsung provided a special stand with vibrating floors to simulate the rumble of helicopters, gunshots and explosions for shoppers at Samsung 837 watching the experience.

Samsung continued to showcase "The Raid" on tour through its Samsung store across the United States during the run of the 24: Legacy season.

Relevancy

Fox and Samsung partnered up to bring the series reboot of 24 to life in a gripping way — putting you in the center of a combat mission in virtual reality.

Strategy

Samsung wanted to appeal to the loyal 24 fanbase. Fans of the original show were introduced to the new cast and storyline in the six-minute VR experience powered by the Gear VR headset with a supported smartphone like the Galaxy S7.

Synopsis

Samsung VR is the company’s premium portal for 360-degree experiences and the latest comes in the form of "The Raid". Samsung and Fox, the studio behind 24, wanted to do something special to usher in the reboot of the popular franchise by offering an exclusive sneak peak into the new universe.
