CampaignDescription

In government schools in India it is compulsory for the kids to carry an identity card (ID-CARD). Each kid has to wear one around his or her neck. Savlon, one of India’s popular health & hygiene brands, came up with a simple promotional item that could be implemented in every school easily.

We went to schools and re-purposed their ID-CARDS into handwash dispensers. Thus we designed Savlon ID-GUARD – a pouch that combined the id-card with an easily replaceable handwash sachet. The ID-Guard became a permanent part of the school uniform. Kids enjoyed squeezing the handwash out of their ID-Guards. This made them use it more often.

Because using the ID-Guard is fun, it establishes a long-term relationship between kids and hand-hygiene.

Execution

Name: Savlon ID-Guard

Components: School's ID-card, Handwash Sachet, Re-designed plastic pouch.

Production: We took school ID-CARD and redesigned it to add a replaceable handwash sachet.

How it works: Kids wear Savlon ID-Guard, which contains their id-card and handwash sachet, around their necks. The sachet has a cap which can be opened to remove handwash and closed afterwards. This cap protrudes via a cut-out at the bottom of the ID-Guard, making it easy to simply remove the cap and squeeze out handwash when required and then put the cap back on. Also the handwash sachet is replaceable so when it gets over, a new one can be put in. Thus the access to handwash is never hindered.

User Interaction: The ID-CARD that hangs around every kid's neck is replaced with an ID-GUARD. Making the interaction fun, easy and a regular habit.

Outcome

Demand for the ID-Guard soared with distribution reaching 1000 school within just 5 months

The plan is take ID-Guard to 2 million school kids across India by end of 2018

Total combined views of 4.4 million across Facebook and YouTube

Trended at #3 on Twitter

Picked up by leading websites, blogs and regional newspapers across the country

The initiative also reached 1.5 million mothers through various communities on Facebook

Earned PR Value of around USD 1,659,000

Plan to conduct research and with proven results, recommend to the government schools across the country to make the ID-Guard mandatory

Our favourite result - KIDS LOVE USING IT!

Synopsis

Millions of school kids in India do not have the habit of washing their hands with soap. One of the main reasons being lack of this habit at home.

Countless children succumb to diseases such as diarrhea owing to this reason. Simply providing handwash or soap wasn't helping as either the soap or bottle of handwash would get misplaced or the kids just wouldn't be patient enough to wait till they get to use it.

We wanted to promote the habit of handwashing with soap by providing every kid with a personal access to handwash, in a way that made handwashing easy and fun.

We turned school ID-CARDS into ID-GUARDS and brought the habit of handwashing with soap to a 1000 schools.
