Overview

Why is this work relevant for Innovation?

We used our product technology, which based on face and objects recognition with machine learning capabilities to actually help blind and visually impaired people to vote unassisted for the first time

Background

Wireless, lightweight and compacted into the size of finger, OrCam MyEye 2.0's breakthrough assistive technology instantly reads printed and digital text aloud: newspapers, books, restaurant menus, signs, product labels, computer and smartphone screens. Instant face recognition improves social situations. Identification of consumer products, colors and money notes provides a refreshing level of independence. Magnetically mounted on the wearer’s eyeglasses or sunglasses frame and weighing less than an ounce, OrCam MyEye 2.0 is the only wearable artificial vision tech that is activated by an intuitive pointing gesture or simply by following the wearer's gaze – allowing for hands-free use without the need of a smartphone or Wi-Fi.

Describe the idea

In collaboration with the Israeli government, we placed MyEye devices in voting centers all over Israel, that people with impaired vision could wear by themselves behind the ballot and hear every voting note in private.

What were the key dates in the development process?

Orcam Technologies Ltd. is an Israeli company that develops and manufactures a computerized vision-based device that assists visually impaired, blind and other disabled people.

In 2013, the company began selling its first products, and in 2015 introduced its main product, OrCam MyEye, made up of a tiny video camera attached to the user's eyepieces, and a microcomputer that processes the image and reads the text indicated by a tiny speaker located near the user's ear.

In 2017, Orcam presented MyEyE 2.0 at the CES conference. - This is actually the product from the casestudy

Describe the expectations/outcome

The product will eventually help blind and visually impaired people to "See" the environment, to recognize faces and read text like everybody else.

Our main mission was to expose the product to our target audience and the mission complied beyond exceptions
