Corona is “La Cerveza Más Fina” not just because of its ingredients but because of its choices. Born from the same moment of history as Mexico itself, the beer and the nation share a spirited story of progress in the face of obstacles. This shared story inspired a 60-second animated mural narrated by Gael García Bernal and leverages the artistic work of the iconic Mexican surrealist Pedro Friedeberg.

In a single camera move, eight detailed miniature sets animated in stop-motion come to life. The film tells a tale from post-revolutionary Mexico, to the first golden age of Mexican cinema. From the 80’s economic crisis to a journey around the world and back that creates a new golden era for Mexico today. A present, where Mexicans, and Corona, have learned to turn obstacles into opportunities, because “The Finest Never Stop.”

Mexico’s history is wrought with disorder and uncertainty. But Mexican’s have pride in what makes them Mexican. Their culture. Corona is a symbol of that pride.

Born post-revolution in a transparent bottle, Corona displayed what made it finest - safe ingredients. During the golden age of Mexican culture, the Corona Caravan brought Culture and Coronas to small corners of the country. During an economic crisis, Corona began an ambitious export plan, bringing the Mexican name to 180 countries.

Details may not translate internationally. Pedro Friedeberg's iconic styling, from a golden hand chair on which Gael sits, to dazzling patterns, repetition of characters, checkerboard floors and the symmetry of the sets. Historical references like the use of Spanish colonial architecture, era-specific wardrobe, La Charra (1950s Corona Icon), the Mexico trading floor from the '80s, etc. Every detail of the film is an intersection of historical reference and Pedro’s style.
