Description
For Oscar night, we created “Make a Film with iPad,” a documentary film to celebrate the future of creativity in filmmaking.
Students from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) wrote, storyboarded, shot, edited and colored their own short films using only the iPad.
We captured an honest depiction of the students’ unscripted journey, their successes, their failures, their struggles and their joy as they poured their hearts into their creative vision. Martin Scorsese’s voice over, sampled from his 2014 commencement speech to the graduating class of his Alma Mater, the Tisch School of Arts at NYU, served as a verbal passing of the torch from one generation of filmmakers to the next.
Like the students, we shot our film entirely on the iPad.
Execution
We started with a track an EP from Swedish recording artist Elliphant and worked with UK producer Riton to remix the track specific to the build of the spot. We featured DJ The Gaslamp Killer to incorporate his live iPad performance elements which we saw him doing live as a natural behavior. We chose Elliphant because of the incredible song and also because she uses Garageband and other Apple products in her music creation process.
