South Africa is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a woman. As SA's only woman-focussed insurance brand, 1st For Women (FFW) has been fighting Gender Based Violence since 2005. Yet GBV has become so pervasive, the numbers so overwhelming, we've become numb. We turn a blind eye. And what happens in the dark, stays there. For 16 Days in 2019, FFW brought it into the light. #16DaysOfLight saw an all-female crew shining a light on some of the darkest places in our country – actual murder scenes – and telling the stories that had been left behind by projecting harrowing tributes, written in light, to the women that died there. And, having put it in the spotlight, we helped South Africans take action, connecting women in danger with the help that could save their lives, and turning #16DaysOfActivism into #16DaysOfLight.
