CampaignDescription
The Drinkable Book is a revolutionary new tool that combines safe water education and purification in one easy tool. Developed in partnership with scientists and engineers at Carnegie Mellon University, the book is printed on a porous paper that works like a scientific coffee filter. The paper is coated with silver nanoparticles, which is the ingredient that enables it to kill deadly bacteria found in unsafe water.
The content of the book, printed in multiple languages and on food grade ink, teaches safe water habits. Things we take for granted, like keeping feces and trash away from your water source and how to wash your hands.
Each book can provide someone with up to 4 years worth of clean drinking water.
Effectiveness
The most amazing part of The Drinkable Book isn’t just that it teaches safe water habits and also purifies it. It’s that these filters open up a brand new revenue stream for WATERisLIFE and have the potential to revolutionize water purification as a whole. Each filter cost just pennies to make and are extremely sustainable. One book alone will provide someone in the developing world with clean water for up to four years.
Implementation
The Drinkable Book can’t be categorized by channel since it’s more of an invention than traditional advertising. The hero of the project is the technology behind the paper, which will provide people in the developing world with years upon years of safe drinking water. So far, thousands of books have been sent to Ghana, Kenya, Haiti and India, ultimately resulting in approximately 4,000 years of clean drinking water to those in need.
