OVERVIEW

BriefExplanation

Tom Bodett has been the spokesman for Motel 6 for over 22 years. He was chosen for his homespun, 'common-sensical' wit and his wry, winking delivery. A contributor to National Public Radio's 'All Things Considered' and 'Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me,' Tom is famous for his good-humoured approach to poking fun at life's pretensions.

(Fades under)MVO2: Okay, well, what I was going for in this scene was a sense of childlike innocence, with a subtext of man’s eternal struggle against ennui and stuff. So I improvised with a shoebox and two pounds of bacon.MVO1: It’s like I always say...MVO2: Love that.

MVO1: ...life is a bowl of cherries...

MVO2: Hate that.MVO1: ...and happiness is friendly, courteous service.

MVO2: Producers made me say that.MVO1: I’m Tom Bodett for Motel 6, and we’ll leave the light on for you.

MVO2: I was going to go for a darker ending, something about not leaving the light on, but it didn’t test well.
