Write a short summary of what happens in the film
This film was made to launch the Kia Telluride in the 2019 Super Bowl. In it, we take a visual journey through West Point, Georgia. Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of it. No one has. Its obscurity is part of the idea. The film is meant to be an introduction to a part of America few ever see. A part that rarely gets celebrated—the rural South. But even more, it’s about the hard work and humility of the unfamous places where incredible things are built.
Cultural/Context information for the jury
This year The Super Bowl was played in Atlanta, Georgia. Kia builds its cars only 81 miles away in the totally obscure town of West Point, Georgia. If there was ever a time to tell this story of contrasting fame and anonymity, it was this year on the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is a parade of big celebrity and broad humor. The film’s opening line (“We are not famous.”) contradicts the media environment it lives in.
Tell the jury anything relevant about the direction. Do not name the director.
The film is shot on location in rural West Georgia, where Kias are built. The setting is designed to be an equal character in the film. None of the people in the film are actors. The director’s thought was to be visually indirect in the beginning. To hide our intent from the audience. Which is why many of our subjects are filmed from behind. The idea was to make progress toward the reveal of more faces. To establish a searing humanity later in the edit. This idea comes from the opening line of the film—“We are not famous.” This is the film’s ethos.
