CampaignDescription

Streetguard is a portable device that triggers the alarm of cars in a 25-meter range by a woman who is in grave danger.

It can be possible by a small enhancement made in all cars that have hired Alarm Systems de México. This doesn't affect the car computers, the regular alarm system nor the general functioning of the vehicles. Streetguard triggers the alarm, thus obtaining the attention of people in streets and the residents in adjacent homes, trying to avoid possible crimes.

Execution

Streetguard works with radio frequency technology, the same used in the car’s alarm. We wanted to guarantee the safety of all peers, so it's development do not interfere with the car’s computer or security systems since it could be used for malicious purposes. Instead, we focused on the basic principle used in the majority of the cars which is a closed circuit to monitor if a door is open or not. We connected a switch that can only be triggered when paired with a Streetguard transmitter device. If someone activates Streetguard, it will simulate the signal of an open door in nearby cars for a few seconds which triggers all car alarms. It is important to mention that the vehicles will never open, it just activates the lights and siren for the programmed time of the car, and after that, all the alarms will continue to work as designed.

Outcome

The long-term outcome is improving the security of women all around the world, and give car alarm’s a second use.

Development of 15 prototypes of version 1.0.0.

Investment of 3,5k to design the first version of Streetguard.

Plans of future development of version 2.0.0.

Relevancy

Streetguard hacks the car alarms to give safety for women. It's an innovation to reduce the awful crimes and violence against women. It takes advantage of the problem of streets crowded with cars to aware society of all the violence that women suffer on the streets.

Solution

Version 1.0.0 is a fully functional device capable of triggering the car's alarm system without compromising the safety of the owner's car.

In our development, we used fast prototyping techniques to lower our costs until we make a model ready to market.

Timeframe of Development:

23 January 2017 - Development of idea, research of different technologies.

22 February 2017 - First tests of technology radio frequency 430Hz band.

18 April 2017 - Basic prototype

16 June 2017 - Design and manufacturing of 3D printed components.

17 August 2017 - Prototype was sent to China to make all the breadboards and buy all the parts necessary for production.

24 October 2017 - Production began to make the first fully-functional batch of prototypes.

30 January 2018 - Quality and performance tests to establish the project for version 2.0.0.

Synopsis

Tracking Systems de México, a company dedicated to automotive safety in Mexico, has noted that thanks to its work, the rate of car theft in streets has decreased, however, the violence against women have increased exponentially in recent years.

Tracking Systems of Mexico believes that it is time to provide safety not only for cars but also to women.
