BriefExplanation

It’s a dramatic story of folded paper animals, put in danger and forced to flee – thus metaphorically representing the problems of our real world: air-pollution, deforestation, overfishing, climate-change, and making these abstract, complex environmental issues more tangible for everyone.

The origami animals of this unique world of paper – set in an office desk, amongst various office equipments – experience the same dangers that real-life animals experience: they have to run for their lives. With the helps of series of metaphors and visual associations the film gradually transport the viewer into a macro world of reality, where nature is struggling to survive.

Since this “action-animation” uses plenty of straightforward and direct scenes, it also has a strong lyrical overtone and clearly communicates our message: “We are all connected”.

Solution

We spent more than 3 months studying the art of origami and the motion of wild animals. In origami, you have to face some serious boundaries and work within limitations coming from the material itself, so you have to think in a very structured manner.

The simplified shapes gave us some artistic restrictions, but we finally succeeded in creating a believable world of paper animals that contain and reflect the main characteristics of the living world.

The texture of paper (it can be torn, creased, stained) symbolizes the vulnerability and fragility of wildlife with a simple, easily understandable metaphor. The direction – with its focus on storytelling – maximizes this metaphor’s dramatic effect with the stylish animation, the well-timed visual and sound editing. Each and every element of the film has been designed to convey the complexity of our world and to express the core message: “We are all connected”.
