Execution

The Mars mission in this spot takes place in a not-too-distant future. NASA believes they’ll send humans to Mars within 15 years, so we wanted to stay as close to reality as possible. At the same time, we needed to stay true to the ideas and images of Mars travel familiar to people from recent Hollywood blockbusters. Everything in the spot needed to look and feel realistic, and yet slightly futuristic. So we applied this thinking to the design of everything from the space suits and the instruments the astronauts use to the interior of the Mars habitat and the mission-control room. Even small details like the astronaut’s mission patches and the name of the mission were looked at through this lens of realism, futurism and blockbuster(ism).
