Write a short summary of what happens in the radio or audio execution or campaign.
Our ad tells the classic fairytale, Jack And The Beanstalk. But it tells it backwards. Jack starts out as a very rich man, but ends up in a much less luxurious place. It’s all to show that when things go backwards (like when you reverse a car) they don’t always have a happy ending. And that’s why the Vauxhall Astra has a reverse camera as standard…
Cultural/Context information for the jury
The campaign was aired in the UK to coincide with ‘Panto Season’ – a part of the year when traditional fairy tales are performed in theatres in ‘pantomimes’. They’re typically overblown, colourful, flamboyant versions of well-known stories that often play with storylines and structure – which is why we’ve taken the same approach in our ads.
Script. Provide the full radio advert script in English.
MVO This is the story of a very, very rich boy called Jack.
SFX (A cash register rings, posh laughter)
MVO One day, he brought a dead giant back to life. Then he gave the giant a goose that laid golden eggs…
SFX (A giant says, ‘Oooh, thanks!’)
MVO ...a goose that the giant had previously owned and which Jack had stolen. The giant stomped about shouting…
SFX (A giant shouts ‘Fum-fo-fi-fee!’)
MVO ...then Jack climbed down a giant beanstalk, and swapped some magic beans for a cow…
SFX (A goes forlornly goes ‘Moo’) …after which he lived in poverty with his mother until the day he was born.
MVO Things can end badly backwards. That’s why the Vauxhall Astra Ultimate comes with reverse camera as standard.
