We created two immersive adventure stories told entirely on Instagram.
We hijacked Instagram’s tile feed, and combined hundreds of photo posts and dozens of films into one seamless panoramic adventure that the user could scroll through and explore.
Every tile, and every object was able to be explored in greater detail, with many hidden films and secrets peppered throughout the journey.
Both journeys were beautiful to scroll through, but most importantly taught essential outdoor survival skills every Land Rover driver should know.
Execution
We knew Instagram allowed a tile feed option, the ability to fullscreen individual thumbnail posts, host 15” films, and had a great scrolling, tactile interface than lent itself to ‘exploring’.
We took those popular features and thought about how we could use them differently.
A high-profile director, DP, photographer, talent, animators, and local wildlife and survival experts assembled to create an experience that had never been attempted before.
Scenes were carefully composed so that multiple locations would blend together seamlessly, and objects that would later become interactive tiles were spaced deliberately to ensure an even spread of interactive content once assembled.
Hundreds of stills and dozens of narrative, lifestyle, and informative films were shot on location. Each film was later individually edited, graded, crafted, scored and had titles designed and animated.
These assets were then handed to our digital production company, who had to devise an entirely new technique to upload the entire experience to Instagram. Each tile had to uploaded individually, in a precise order, in an unusual orientation to ensure the entire experience was truly seamless.
