Background

Mentimeter is the fastest growing startup in Sweden, present in over 120 countries, with a constantly increasing 78 million users worldwide. Despite this they were lacking a distinguishable and engaging visual identity to match their product; A presentation platform that enables real-time interaction between a presenter and their audience.

Founded with a clear mission and goal to elevate as well as transform the ´traditional´ presentation space from dull and one dimensional to one that is inclusive, interactive and fun, Mentimeter saw that they were lacking crucial components needed to reach this ambitious goal. They approached us with a need for a trustworthy and distinct identity that would differentiate their service from competitors and more established platforms, as well as deliver a unique brand experience to attract a wider audience, and that is exactly what we did.

Describe the creative idea

With the need of a trustworthy and distinct identity in mind, the creative idea became to create a new dynamic, playful and distinguishable visual identity, that reflects the fun nature and functions to be explored within the platform. A new identity to captivate audiences with the use of vibrant colors, and geometric shapes taking the brand away from their bland neutral identity, by giving them a quirky, energetic and modern impression.

Describe the execution

The final new playful design reinvented Mentimeters look and feel, making their product distinctive, memorable, and relevant. The use of vibrant colors makes the platform stand out from all competitors, as well as reflecting the fun nature behind the service. The geometric shapes and graphic elements used throughout the new identity gives the viewer a general understanding of Mentimeters tools, by bringing them to life.

An important factor to keep in mind was that Mentimeter wasn’t able to make themselves seen and prominent within the category, to ultimately create growth. In order to do this we made sure our design would stand out from the more traditional presentation platforms such as Keynote, Powerpoint and Google slides, as well as the more playful services such as Kahoot, and Pigeon Hole. The new visual identity is distinctive, as well as having a clear connection to the product, ultimately boosting brand awareness.

List the results

Mentimenter has during 2020 seen an increase of 81% in users, going from 70 million to 127 million. When comparing April-October 2020 with the same time period the previous year we see an increase in use by 260% among presenters.

In order to gain a deeper understanding of the impact our new identity had, and isolate the designs effect on the companies success, we conducted a series of A/B tests with the use of Bilendis unbiased study for DesignIndex in September 2020. The results showed that the new design led to increase in likability, uniqueness and purchase intention as well as a 62% increase in preference. Mentimeter was actually crowned the overall winner of the study. These results prove our new visual identity to be integral to achieve Mentimeters purpose as well as a fundamental component in order to reach their goals of expanding further and becoming a distinguishable brand.
