SOUNDTREE MUSIC, London / PEPSI / 2014

BriefExplanation
Pepsi isn’t a sports brand. It’s a brand with deep roots in culture and music. So rather than focusing on the pitch for the World Cup, we created an anthem for the tournament with a single meaningful message, “We can be heroes.”
Using Rio as a soundboard, a football fan embarks on a journey to recreate David Bowie’s classic song “Heroes.” Along the way he gets help from six of football’s greatest heroes, each adding their own notes to the anthem. He also crosses paths with iconic pop star Janelle Monae who sings the chorus and completes the build of his song. The spot culminates with our fan returning to the once empty pitch where he began, only now it is filled with fans dancing and singing the anthem, ready for the games to begin.
Execution
The publishing rights for the song "Heroes" was licensed from David Bowie/Brian Eno. We then composed an adaptation for the film.
