Background

Music to some is life, has the power to transform, entertain, give joy and inspire. And as one of the fastest growing music streaming platforms in the world, Anghami is dedicted to bringing the joy of music to as many people as possible. But, for deaf people this is a world they can’t access. Think of all the moments able hearing people enjoy music. Not just in concerts, but wherever they go, be it the bus, metro, work, studying, or in the park, these personal listening experiences are something the deaf community can’t enjoy like everyone else. in a way deaf people have been forgotten about by the music world. Our goal was to come up with a platform that would allow this community to participate and feel included in the world of music.

Describe the creative idea

We found deaf people have been improvising over the years to feel music through vibration- the sound wave pattern reflects in the vibrations that they sense. But this normally means touching very large powerful speakers, which is impractical for moving around and personal listening.

Just as the Walkman had done decades ago for hearing-people, we wanted to allow deaf people to feel their music anytime, anywhere by creating a product innovation which allows them to sense the vibrations of music more accessibly.

Typically the deaf community is not the emblematic target audience for a music streaming platform, however with this idea idea could change that- . it’s going to open up the world of music to the deaf community for the first time – with all the enjoyment, participation, and sense of belonging that comes with it

We want to spark a wider conversation not just about music, but invite other brands to innovate to take inclusivity beyond a brand value and into action.

Describe the execution

Sole Music is headphones for your feet - a specially designed in-sole that can be placed in any shoe that pairs wirelessly with your mobile and lets you play music from any music streaming platform. A special transducer translates soundwaves you can hear into vibrations you can feel, empowering deaf people to enjoy music anywhere.

To support the launch of SOLE MUSIC, a full social media campaign was launched including a music video/ documentary telling the story of a deaf dancer growing up defying his disability to fulfill his love of dancing and showing him and other deaf dancers using SOLE MUSIC to dance.

List the results

Since launch, we have delivered 15,000 pairs of SOLE MUSIC insoles. Our launch film was viewed 2.6 million times and our campaign saw over 65 million impressions across all touch points with $11 million earned media. We’ve also received collaboration interest from renowned sports brands New Balance and Puma.
