Overview

Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

This movie takes place in an apartment. The atmosphere is dark, family pictures seem to be missing from their original frames. Then a man appears, sitting at a table. He is somewhere between frustration and anger. He’s searching for something on his computer and ignoring his phone – someone seems to seek his attention. Switching from tension to discomfort, we quickly understand that this man is actually ignoring his son, asking him to come back home. The father is at the same time trying to erase his homosexual child from his life by erasing his face from all the family pictures thanks to a horrific website. Unfortunately, this is not a fiction but the reality of hundreds of young LGBTQ+ teens who are kicked out of their home each year.

Background:

Every year in France, thousands of LBGT+ youth are expelled from their homes by their parents. One fact that comes up regularly is that many of them are erased from all family memories. They are deleted from group photos, as if they never existed.

We wanted to create a shocking campaign to raise awareness of this sad reality and to call for support for Le Refuge, which offers these young people a healthy environment where they can rebuild their lives.

Tell the jury about the choice of music track.

True symbol of the gay community thanks to its use in the 80s, Tainted Love was an obvious choice for this movie.

Once used as a protest music to show pride in their personalities, our movie uses it as a direct confrontation; the painful relationship between a father and a son.

The lyrics reflect how the relationship has shifted, translating in a man's anger and irreparable separation.

Through this reinterpretation by composer Ben Frost, we wanted to create a real tension in this movie. The fragility in the singer's voice gives even more meaning and impact to the story, revealing the true feelings of the protagonist and leading to an irrevocable decision.

Is there any cultural context that would help the jury understand how this work was perceived by people in the country where it ran?

The starting point of this campaign is the reflection of the situation in France concerning LGBT+ youth: every year in France, thousands of them are expelled from their homes by their parents.”
