CampaignDescription

Unlike Europe or Asia, in Costa Rica, the electrical outlets look sad and scared. That was the inspiration for Gollo, the leader appliance retailer of Costa Rica, to modify these sad outlets and create a new unbranded media : the Happy Electrical Outlet, an outlet that certifies that the electrical installation of a house is correctly done, without changing the nature of the appliances or the cables, and assuring there will be no electrical shorts in their homes. Of course, Gollo would be responsible for ensuring that the electrical installation is correct and to install the Happy Electrical Outlets needed in every home.

Execution

The Happy Electrical Outlet works just like a normal plug; complies with electrical standards of Costa Rica.

The tang that protects all the electrical appliance is round, so the happy input, does not really affect.

The Happy Electrical Outlet weighs 40 grams and is made of plastic, bronzed brass, and plated copper screws.

The Happy Electrical Outlets have been already launched to the market and are already been installed in people houses.

Implementation

First, we investigated the electrical standard rules of Costa Rica, to stay within the allowed parameters.

Then, we investigated the production process with the engineering department of the University of Costa Rica (the country's largest university).

Then we made several prototypes in 3D printing.

The mold was acquired to produce outlets, mass, and to ensure affordable.

We produce the first 100 outlets, to detect any error or defect.

Finally, we produced the first order of 2000 outlets.

Outcome

1) On the first month, 1003 clients received the free electrical installation certified with a Happy Electrical Outlet: 63% made by Gollo’s current clients via mailing, and 37% made by new clients via massive campaign.

2) +20 traffic in store, generating +34% in sales on the first month.

3) 648 clients purchased an appliance via gollotienda.com, during the month of the launch, exceeding the online sales goal in 224% (Gollo sales an average of 200 appliances every month).

5) The Happy Electrical Outlets help to reduce the fires in 11% in the first month.

6) With the launch of the Happy Electrical Outlet Program, Gollo also created a social program that rebuilds the houses of poor families who lost theirs, in a fire. On the first month, Gollo has built 10 new houses already.

7) It is projected to install it to 45.000 new clients, in the next 3 years.

Synopsis

Poor electrical installations are the #1 cause of fires in the country: 33.1% As the leader appliance retailer of Costa Rica, Gollo felt the responsibility to help to reduce at least 5% of the fires caused by bad electrical installation, with an idea so strong that helped them also to increase at least 10% the traffic in store, on the first month of the launch.
