Overview

Please provide an FDA code or regional equivalent in relation to your submission.

The Most Beautiful Sound campaign is characterized as disease awareness and does not make any clinical claims, and because it was done in partnership with ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology), it did not require an FDA submission and was approved via rigorous internal review processes with ASCO and Harvard Medical School.

Background:

To build resiliency and hope in patients, we captured a new sound in oncology—the sound of cancer cells dying. We translated this data into sounds patients could hear, because taking something invisible and making it tangible is a powerful healing tool.

We knew Harvard Medical School was at the forefront of this technology and formed an exclusive partnership with them, resulting in a 2 year, scientifically-validated research study. The study isolated cancer cells (from different cancers) at the precise moment of apoptosis and captured its sound to help millions of people fighting cancer. We then worked with Berklee School of Music to translate this inspiring sound into a tool to help patients with cancer. The sound is an open-sourced sound therapy available for all hospitals, universities, and caregivers. Most Beautiful Sound has also launched with a website, radio ad, film, and will have a major presence and exhibition at ASCO.

Describe the Impact:

In collaboration with the Berklee School of Music and Cancer Dojo, the Most Beautiful Sound is sharing the sound with patients everywhere through a pilot sound therapy program. It will be an open-sourced program available for all hospitals, universities, patients, and caregivers. Additionally, along with Clinical Nurse Specialists and leading oncologists, we’re giving the sound away as a therapy to help patients throughout their cancer journey.

It is also available on Cancer Dojo, an app that empowers cancer patients to play an active role in their recovery to make them more resilient to the negative effects of the disease.

Psychoneuroimmunology, or the study on the mind's impact on healing, is proven to inspire resilience and more positive outcomes for our patients. This was accomplished by turning something abstract into something patients can actually hear.

Additionally, the scientific results and data from the study have been published by Harvard Medical School.

Write a short summary of what happens in the radio or audio work.

After examining thousands of cancer molecules and collecting millions of data points, the data from the 7 most prolific cancer cell lines were measured and sonofied into high fidelity sounds. For the first time, we turned something abstract into something tangible to empower patients.

In collaboration with the Berklee School of Music and Cancer Dojo, the Most Beautiful Sound is being brought to patients everywhere through a pilot sound therapy program.

Along with Clinical Nurse Specialists and leading oncologists, we’re giving the sound away as an open-sourced therapy to hospitals, universities, patients, and caregivers. It will also be available on the Cancer Dojo app.  The Most Beautiful Sound has also launched with a website, radio ad, film, and will be a major presence at the ASCO convention.

We know that through the power of psychoneuroimmunology, we can inspire resilience and in turn, more positive outcomes for our patients.

Why is this work relevant for Pharma Lions?

The Most Beautiful Sound was for the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the largest organization representing physicians of all oncology subspecialties. We had an opportunity to showcase work at the 2023 ASCO conference in front of 35,000 oncologists. While the brief called for traditional creative deliverables, we had a much bigger, groundbreaking idea. Through partnerships with Harvard Medical School, Cancer Dojo, and Berklee School of Music, we did something never done before: harnessed the sounds of cancer dying at the cellular level and captured sounds filled with meaning. We also launched a pilot sound therapy with Clatterbridge Cancer Center.

Describe any restrictions or regulations regarding Healthcare/RX/Pharma communications in your country/region including:

The American Society of Clinical Oncology has a strict regulatory team that ensures work is scientifically valid and credible. Depending on the nature of the work, FDA approvals. We also dealt with strict approvals from Harvard University and Harvard Medical School as well as the Berklee School of Music.

Describe the target audience and why your work is relevant to them.

Our target audience was oncologists and patients with cancer. However, because the Most Beautiful Sound is an open-sourced sound therapy—with the help of Clinical Nurse Specialists and leading oncologists—everyone from hospitals, universities, patients, and caregivers can hear this audio experience through a pilot sound therapy program.
