CampaignDescription
The packaging in red, white and blue with bold graphics and customized illustrations are intentionally designed to be provocative with each chocolate bar representing a political party, issue or phrase, from Left Wing to Tea Party to Filibuster. Touching every part of this project from concept, design and copywriting to product creation; we went beyond the services offered by a brand design agency. Working closely with Harper Macaw to develop flavors based on the “characters” of each bar from Red State with its mix of red berries and chocolate to Tea Party an Earl Grey infused dark chocolate bar; we created six unique flavors for six unique designs and copy that adds humor during a high-stakes time.
Execution
We sketched extensively, taking concepts and thinking through rounds of graphic styles, illustration, painting, typography and color. From simple and bold to more layered design – what we imagined, we created, all in-house, before choosing to use illustration across all design. And to give the series that extra shot of patriotism, all packaging is executed in a Red, White, and Blue color scheme.
Outcome
The political series launched on Super Tuesday so the early exit polls are not yet available.
Strategy
Washington DC is the nation’s capitol and a very political town. With one of the most controversial election years upon us it is the perfect time to leverage the negativity of political campaigns and sweeten it with chocolate. In 2016 we will see an influx of left-wing lobbyist to red-state tourists, and the only thing they will have in common is the love of chocolate.
Synopsis
Deepening our partnership with Harper Macaw, we designed a limited edition series of six chocolate bars to pay homage to our DC roots during the election year. The concept, flavors and design of this series were developed to deepen Harper Macaw’s engagement with their already highly engaged, Millennial audience.
