BriefExplanation
This film celebrates those friends that push us past our comfort zones into the things we probably wouldn't be brave enough to do on our own. To visualize this, we showed vignettes of friends pushing each other to try weird food, dying a friend’s hair, racing office chairs, and showing a friend with a giant pet python. Because these moments are often when our best memories are made. At the end of the film, we revisit some of the earlier moments in the form of Facebook posts. This allows us to talk about how these friendships shape our lives and Facebook helps us stay connected to these friends.
EntrySummary
All of these vignettes were shot around the UK with real people to give the spots a feeling of authenticity, and show friendship in a way that would feel real and familiar to our UK audience.
For instance, one food being eaten in the film is "jellied eels," a traditional English dish from the East End of London. It's a dish that some people might be familiar with, but others might be scared to try. We also showed friends arguing in the back of the iconic black London cab, something that would be familiar to anyone from the UK. Additionally, the boat in the shot of the boat on fire is a canal boat - these unique boats are a familiar sight on canals throughout England. Overall, it was essential that the types of moments and friendships depicted were all things that would be relevant to UK culture.
ScriptInEnglish
They know who they are.
The friends who convince us to try this, do that, and talk to him.
They give us permission to stop asking for permission.
Introduce procrastination in service of the greater good.
And encourage us to do all the things we’re sure we shouldn’t.
The stories we’ll tell our grandchildren are their ideas.
Our witnesses to the things no one else believes.
Sharing secrets and blame and detention.
Pushing buttons we didn’t even know we had.
We’ve unfriended them and unfollowed them, only to find our ties cannot be broken as easily as we think.
Because as much as we’re told to keep our distance,
We keep them close.
Because they remind us what it is to be alive,
just by being our friends.
