The Interpretation of the Challenge

A small Russian online university decided to create a global campaign for their the first english course with Michael Janda the author of Amazon bestseller 'Burn Your Portfolio' and made people all over the world understand that for some jobs there is a real threat that humans will be replaced by artificial intelligence. Our target audience was people who could lose their job if it was replaced by AI. We wanted to make as many people as we can aware of this threat.

The Insight / Breakthrough Thinking

It is obvious that in the nearest future artificial intelligence will be able to fully replace humans at least in some jobs. For example, two Oxford University researches, Carl Benedikt Frey and Michael Osbourne, predicted that by 2024 more than 94% accountants and auditors will no longer have a job. However, those who work in the arts will probably retain their jobs. For example, only 8% of designers are at risk.

Insight: The quickest and most unconventional way to deliver our message to specialists whose jobs are threatened by artificial intelligence today… Is their office printer.

Our target audience: accountants, finance managers, auditors – everyone who deals with a lot of paperwork – still interact with printers on a regular basis.

The Creative Idea

Inspired by Isaac Asimov’s, ‘First Law of Robotics,’ which states: “a robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm”, online university Skillbox is launching the world’s first bot that warns of AI taking people’s jobs by sending message to printers connected to the internet all over the world.

Our bot uses the open API of Shodan.io – the world’s first “Internet of Things” search engine – to find printers connected to the world wide web via 9100 ports. Once an open port is discovered – the message is sent to print. Inspiring people to start learning design right here, right now. After all, there is not much time left.

The Outcome / Results

– 1 869 000 messages sent by the bot;

– 32 473 website visits;

– 5 891 submitted applications.

Cultural/Context Information for the Jury

One of the frequent topics in the modern media is that in some jobs artificial intelligence will soon fully replace humans. Well-known publications (Forbes, Inc., futurism.com) write about it, opinion leaders have debates about it and scientists carry out research. We drew inspiration from the works of two researchers from Oxford University – The Future of Employment: How susceptible are jobs to computerisation, Carl Benedikt Frey and Michael Osbourne – and the website https://willrobotstakemyjob.com/
