Cultural / Context information for the jury

“Extreme heat is worse for low-income, nonwhite Americans” - NPR

“The Agony of extreme heat is profoundly unequal” - The New York Times

This inequality comes from the fact that low-income areas have less green spaces and the buildings are closer, which makes everything more hot. And when it’s hot you need to turn up the AC, which is expensive and again hard on low-income residents.

Learning about how heat is a big inequality issue, Coors Light wanted to see how they could help, which led us to the solution of white roofs.

Tell the jury about the typography.

The primary purpose of the font was sustainability (coverage) and secondary awareness (legibility). We designed a custom typeface that stretches and expands to any shape or surface, so our letters cover up to 96% of the area they overlay, leaving little to no room for any heat to absorb or pass through.

The font “Chillest” is fully downloadable for all to use, keeping the world chilled with maximum craft and coverage.
