CampaignDescription

Through a Spotify hacking we found the way to donate money without investing a single cent. We created EcoAlarm, an app that: wakes people up with the sounds of protected forests which are played by Spotify, and at the same time helps fund raising to save endangered ecosystems without users’ investment or efforts. Every time a track of the album is played is generates royalties that Spotify pays to “Fundación Banco de Bosques” using the same mechanism they do with artists.

Moreover, we created a site where it could be seen, in real time, the alarms that were programed across the world, the amount of recovered square meters and the ecosystems we were saving. This was illustrated with a Low-Poly esthetic increasing the interaction with the site users to an average of 6 minutes.

Execution

Argentina has thousands of Spotify users which listen daily to their favorite artists. We decided to do something and become part of those artists.

We delved into three endangered Argentina ecosystems: the Selva Misionera, the Impenetrable Chaqueño, and the Bosque Andino Patagónico. For two months, we captured hundreds of sounds from nature using strategically-placed microphones.

Then, we had sound technicians mix the collected audio and create 9 unique tracks which form part of the EcoAlarm album. Along with the Leader Music record label, the album was registered and debuted on Spotify. Banco de Bosques thus raises money each time a song is played, just as an artist would.

We created a mobile alarm that plays these sounds through Spotify, letting us to become a part of users’ playlists. We thus allow users to raise money for native endangered territories each morning, without getting out of bed or spending a dime.

Outcome

In only one week 4950 users downloaded the app. ensuring the safety of 776 endangering species.

A reach of2.850.000 in social media.

The app aroused interest worldwide and was download in 45 countries so far.

We increased site interaction time with users to an average of 6 minutes.

In a very short period time, Spotify acknowledge “Fundación Banco de Bosques” as a certified artist of their platform.

And what is most important, thanks to the musical platform we have 100 million potential activists around the world.

Relevancy

We discovered a new way of donating money without investing a single cent. We noticed that people wants to help, but in an effortless way and without investing money. EcoAlarm is the answer to this issue, you only need to wake up. We created an app that is an alarm clock that reproduces sounds from Spotify, every time the alarm rings “Fundación Banco de Bosques” receives royalties from Spotify in the same way artists do.

Strategy

Getting people to empathize with our cause and lend a hand is as easy as setting a daily alarm.

On International Forest Day we launched EcoAlarm, an alarm clock app which plays sounds from nature via Spotify and generates money to help protect endangered forests and animals.

We told the world about our new idea for donating money without actually spending a dime, and were able to make people from countries such as Mexico, Italy, Japan, and Russia to really identify with the cause and help save Argentine forests daily.

Also, we increased the user experience and made it possible for users to see which ecosystems they were helping to protect, and all of this in real time. We developed an interactive 3D web with a Low-Poly aesthetic, which is easy to look at and share, and did so through modern HTML5, WebGL (plus ThreeJS), and Web Audio API technologies.

Synopsis

Argentina is one of the most deforested countries in the world. It is estimated that more than 70% of native ecosystems have been lost and that 300,000 hectares of forest are logged annually, endangering the lives of hundreds of species.

“Fundación Banco de Bosques” is an NGO that leads the fight in this field, trying to avoid indiscriminate tree cutting. To achieve this, it raises funds to recover every single meter of logged native forests.

Even though there are small groups that are aware of this issue, our challenge was to obtain the commitment of the entire population towards keeping our environment healthy, and at the same time encourage them to become part of the solution in an effortless way.
