CampaignDescription

We found the perfect Spotify hack to get people to raise funds, without spending a cent.

We created EcoAlarm, an alarm clock app that wakes you up with the sounds of protected forests, recorded on Spotify playlists, and that helps raise funds to protect endangered forests at the same time. All without requiring any effort or expenditure from the user. Listening to each track on the album generates royalties, which Spotify pays to the Fundación banco de Bosques, in the same way that it pays other artists.

We also created a website in which you can see the alarms being used around the world, the square meters bought back and the ecosystems being saved. The website is illustrated with low-poly graphics which means that the users’ interactions with the site will increase by six minutes on average.

Execution

Argentina has thousands of Spotify users which listen daily to their favorite artists. We decided to do something to become a part of those artists.

We delved into three endangered Argentina ecosystems: the Selva Misionera, the Impenetrable Chaqueño, and the Bosque Andino Patagónico. For two months, we captured hundreds of sounds from nature using strategically-placed microphones.

We had specialized sound technicians mix the audio and create 9 unique tracks which form part of the EcoAlarm album. Along with the Leader Music record label, the album was registered and debuted on Spotify. Thus, Banco de Bosques raises money each time a song is played, just like an artist.

We created a mobile alarm that plays these sounds through Spotify, allowing us to become part of users’ playlists. We thus allow users to raise money for native endangered territories each morning, without getting out of bed or spending a dime.

Outcome

In a single week 4950 users downloaded the application, which guarantees the survival of 776 endangered species.

A 2,850,000 reach on social media

So far the application has been downloaded in 45 countries and counting.

User interaction on the website is 6 minutes on average.

Spotify has recognized Banco de Bosques as a certified artist on its platform.

And most importantly, thanks to Spotify we have access to millions of potential activists around the world.

Relevancy

We developed an app that really speaks to people who are worried about deforestation and that allows them to help do their part for the environment, every morning. This app allows us to turn every person who owns a smartphone into an environmental conservationist. Because by using this app, they are literally saving endangered native forests.

All without spending a dime or getting out of their beds.

Strategy

On International Forest Day, we launched a way to get through to people each morning. We developed EcoAlarm: a mobile alarm clock app that wakes you up with the sounds of protected forests via Spotify and that helps raise funds to protect endangered forests and animals at the same time.

We shared a new way to donate money, without spending a cent, and spread our message to people in countries such as Mexico, Italy, Japan, and Russia who identified with the cause and play the tracks daily to help save Argentine forests.

On top of this, we enhanced the user experience so that they can get to know the ecosystems they are protecting in real time. We developed an interactive 3D website with a low-poly esthetic that is pleasant to look at and share, with a modern HTML5, WebGL and Web Audio API website.

Synopsis

Argentina is one of the most deforested countries in the world. The country has lost an estimated 70% of its native ecosystems and 300,000 hectares of forest are cut down annually. This endangers the survival of hundreds of species.

Banco de Bosques is an NGO that is trying to stop this deforestation from continuing. To do this, they are collecting funding that is destined to buy back the native forests of Argentina, meter by meter.

Even though small parts of the population are aware of the problem, we need to wake people up to the need to protect the environment, and incentivize them to be part of the solution, without asking them to make too much effort.
