Cultural / Context information for the jury

The Apple TV+ original series, Greatness Code, was a bold new approach to sports documentaries. It abandoned the tired approach of clips and game/event footage, and instead focused on surreal and bespoke animation to act as a canvas for the athletes to tell their stories. It was an illustrative and dynamic creative language, and one that inspired an illustrative and dynamic approach to our artwork. The talent featured were high-profile US athletes including Tom Brady, Lebron James, and Alex Morgan. We were not allowed to utilize any photography for marketing the show because of heavy legal restrictions by the International Olympic Committee and US organizations National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Football League (NFL). As such, an entirely illustrated approach was a natural way to create the dynamic portraiture featured in the artwork.

Tell the jury about the interactive / dynamic component of the work.

The series itself contained a rich library of animated line work and a mixture of 2D and 3D flourishes. The marketing creative utilized similar animated elements to create a sense of movement to both our portraiture as well as the in-game action shots. The end result was designed to represent the spirit of the animation throughout the series, while staying true to the illustrative aesthetic and design of our artwork.
