CampaignDescription

We all hear the world differently. For some a screeching guitar is a great sound; for others it’s noise. Like taste and temperature, hearing is subjective, but until recently we never had a way to curate our own sonic environments. Here Active Listening changes that.

Bringing to life possibilities previously considered unachievable, Here breaks new ground for wearable technology by allowing users to harness their senses in a superhuman way. This has implications both for necessity and entertainment. With Here users can boost the bass at a concert and also amplify a conversation at a loud restaurant.

Inciting people to wear technology proudly on their body is a challenge, so we focused on designing not only innovative technology, but also a simple, easy-to-use product that provides a seamless user experience. Social integration is essential to Here’s success, which is why Here’s first mass consumer debut occurred at Coachella.

Execution

Here Active Listening is two truly wireless in-ear buds and an app (iOS, Apple Watch, and Android) that gives users control over real-world sound. Powered by our proprietary, patented TrueEQ™ technology, Here has a volume knob, 5-band equalizer, layered sound effects, and preset filters optimized for the ears. From a technological standpoint two of Here’s greatest achievements are its zero-latency audio playback and super small form factor. Here is essentially a super-computer in your ears that enables users to ‘Tune In’ to what they want to hear and ‘Tune Out’ unwanted noise, enhancing every live listening experience.

In addition to the buds and app, Here Active Listening includes a small, convenient carrying case that holds two additional charges to ensure the buds are always ready to use.

Outcome

Serving as our “concept car,” we produced 10,000 units of Here Active Listening to serve early customers, strategic partners, enthusiasts, and attendees of the 2016 Coachella music festival via an exclusive partnership. Here is our first digital product, and its main purpose is differentiation, foundation, and education. We’ll leverage our learnings from launching Here to improve our technology and incorporate new features into future versions. Here began shipping in early February 2016.

Due to strong interest, we’ve opened a waitlist on our website, which has reached 80,000 members. Since its launch Here has been named a TIME Magazine “Best Invention of 2015” and an Inc Magazine “Game-Changing Invention of 2015.” Here won “Best of Show” and “Best Music & Audio Innovation” at the 2016 SXSW Innovation awards. Additionally, numerous media outlets, including USA Today, Mashable, CNET, Billboard, and Fast Company have praised Here after its first demos.

Relevancy

Here Active Listening™ changes the way we hear the world through innovations at both the technological and social level. Here Active Listening is two wireless in-ear buds and an app that give people the power to control any audio environment. Sound is extremely powerful - it can move us, transport us, and connect us. But it also has the power to disrupt: sometimes it’s just too loud, and sometimes we can’t hear enough. Here solves both and enables people to harness the power of sound and personalize how they hear the world.

Synopsis

Founded in 2013 by industry leaders in the creative, tech, and business worlds, Doppler Labs is on a mission to create wearable technology that makes computing more immersive and human. In the near-term Doppler Labs is focused on "hearables," wearable technology for the ears that optimizes the way we hear the world. The company launched Here Active Listening in June 2015 as the first step towards its long-term vision of putting a computer, speaker, and mic in everyone’s ears to enable true on-body computing.

To help achieve this vision, Doppler Labs has raised over $40 million USD from prominent investors including The Chernin Group, WME, Universal Music Group, David Geffen, Nicolas Berggruen, Kevin Efrusy, Owen Van Natta, Blake Krikorian, Quincy Jones, and Hans Zimmer.
