To prove the quality of the photos the smartphone could take, we’ve opened a gallery at Les Rencontres d’Arles, the biggest photography festival in the world. The gallery was unique especially as it was interactive: people who were admiring the work of famous New York portraitist Billy Kidd could also be part of the exhibition.

Execution

Portraits of New Yorkers taken by Billy Kidd with the Huawei phone were displayed and above each picture was a Huawei phone. Behind the scenes, the photographer could activate the smartphones remotely to take pictures of the audience’s reactions in front of his photos. These faces were then printed and displayed as well, in response to the initial portraits thus becoming part of the exhibition.

Outcome

For the first time, the spectators of an exhibition were able to be part of the work.

With this innovation, the Huawei Gallery is Les Rencontres d’Arles’ exhibition that has generated the biggest amount of conversations…and of media coverage.

We got more than 90M impressions on social media.

Synopsis

In 2017, Huawei launched a new smartphone in partnership with Leica. We wanted to prove that this smartphone was the best to make great pictures.
