Never before in history has TV produced so much good content. With so much stuff to watch, how can SKY, a satellite broadcast service, help people to find the shows on TV that they are really going to enjoy?

To be able to do that we created a way to be where no traditional media could ever be: inside the browser.

Sky Tip is a browser extension that gives you suggestions on what to watch on TV based on what you are browsing on the internet. Your interests on the web become your personalized TV program schedule.

Effectiveness

In an innovative way, we have 145 TV channels plus more than 3.5k hours of daily programs following SKY clients.

With Sky Tip the brand was able to deliver an intelligent solution that helps them stay ahead of its competitors. And from the pay-per-view and packages upgrade suggestions the new service also helps to improve the ARPU (average revenue per user) in a much more efficient way.

It’s an idea that combines marketing and technology to show how a brand can be present and relevant through non-traditional ways in the digital world.

Execution

To promote the new service we used all proprietary media: The company website (+4MM monthly visitors), social media (+6MM total followers) and the entire mailing base.

Then, from the SKY website or the Chrome Web Store users can easily install the extension on their browser and then sync it to their SKY account.

At each site they browse, it uses sophisticated algorithms to track keywords and searches for matches in SKY program schedule in real time.

They can record or buy programs directly from their browser to watch later on TV at home.

Strategy

Sky knows that the way people consume content is changing dramatically with the internet and believes that to stay relevant the brand needs to use intelligent services to be seen less as a distributor and more like a curator of content.

Sky Tip uses digital tools in a unique way to reinvent how we think media, finding a new channel, more interactive and relevant. It’s a brand new service, free and ready to be used by more than 5MM SKY clients. It’s a powerful tool for branding and plays an important role in customer loyalty.
