THE NEW NORM&AL SHOW

TITLE: DAIRY DETOX

We see a title ‘THE NEW NORMAL’. An ampersand drops from above on a rod between NORM&Al followed by the word ‘show’ which pops up on a rod from below and now the title reads: THE NEW NORM&AL SHOW.

Al is in the living room on the sofa under an afghan rug. We hear the faint noises of moos and aahs from underneath the rug. … Suddenly Norm enters the room.

NORM: “What are you watching Al?”

AL: “Nothing.”

NORM: “Al…!?”

Al hands Norm a tablet and we see what Al has been watching, A DAIRY ADVERT COMPILATION. A lamp beside him is shocked.

COMMERCIAL: “It’s milk from the cow. The way it’s always been…”

Al looks really embarrassed but Norm doesn’t scold him, after all, it’s normal.

NORM: “Tss tss tss… Hmmm. Al, it’s ok. It’s perfectly normal to have these feelings. You’re only an oat drink carton after all.”

AL: “Then why am I so ashamed?! I’m an oat drink pariah is what I am!”

NORM: “It can be hard turning your back on something we’ve been doing for thousands of years… Even the best of us have these urges every now and then.”

AL: “So I’m not a weirdo then? I not gonna go blind or grow hairy palms or anything like that?”

NORM (laughing): “Of course not! Besides, we don’t actually have any real biology so technically we can’t grow hair. You’re a puppet mate, remember?”

AL (relieved): “So, I’m just like everyone else?”

NORM: “Sure you are, give me a hug.”

They embrace.

NORM: “Now get in the washing machine.”

AL: “Absolutely! Go for a spin, eh?
