THE NEW NORM&AL SHOW

TITLE: NOT JUST FOR HIPSTERS

We see a title ‘THE NEW NORMAL’. An ampersand drops from above on a rod between NORM&Al followed by the word ‘show’ which pops up on a rod from below and now the title reads: THE NEW NORM&AL SHOW.

Norm is doing the dishes in the kitchen. Al walks in from the street. He’s got himself a whole new hipster look. Norm is taken aback. Al has an ironic beard, skinny ripped jeans. ‘Crazy’ unmatched socks. A pre-faded vintage T-shirt. And, of course, sunglasses.

NORM (confused): “Uhh, hey Al… what’s with the new look? And what is that on your arm?”

AL: “It’s my new bio-dynamic tattoo with micro-brewed ink blessed by vintage whale songs. ….

NORM: “Right…

AL: …. Haunting.., I’m sure you’ll agree”

NORM: “Yeahh… And.. Why??!”

AL: “It’s all part of my new plant-based lifestyle.”

NORM: “Al, You’ve got this completely wrong, if you don’t mind me saying. A plant-based lifestyle is for everyone and anyone. It’s not just for hipsters…”

AL (defiantly): “…I’m not a hipster?!”

NORM: “What?”

AL: “I said I’m not a hipster. They told me to say that I’m not a hipster.”

NORM: “Wait, what? Who.. Who told you to say that you’re not a…”

AL: “The council.”

NORM: “The council…”

AL: “Yeah! The council of not hipsters!”

NORM: “Right… You see, a plant-based lifestyle is not about who, it’s about why. And anyone can eat plant-based if they feel like being more sustainable and helping the planet out.”

AL: “Anyone?”

NORM: “that’s right Al, anyone.

At this point Norm starts to go into monologue which becomes a song but starts off as spoken word:

NORM: Whether you’re a mother or a sister or a brother or comic book writer or a garbage truck driver,

The song really ramps up, music kicks in and Norm plays some saucepans like they are drums:

NORM: If you’re digging ditches or lumber jacking trees, living on a yacht or making honey with the bees
