BriefExplanation

"Felled" is an original poem we wrote about the provocative subject of hunting: it plays on man's eternal urge to dominate prey and the carnal depths we descend into as a society along the way. The filmmaker was left alone to interpret the poem and opted for the starkly beautiful backdrop of northern Canada to paint his vision.

EntrySummary

Like the BBC, the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) is a nationally funded broadcaster that has never ran advertising within its programming. So the challenge for us - when asked to promote its Arts Channel - was simple: how do you advertise a brand whose audience so clearly rejects advertising? The answer was to create art films.

ScriptInEnglish

Sliced, not cut

The tendons severed

Gentle giants

Collapsed with grace

Corrosive, caustic

Burned by kisses

Smashed and softened

Sectioned off

The mighty broken

Puppet tsars

Tower-high shadows

Felled and tamed

Raise your voice

Define the action

Rest the sword

The swell will thicken

Churned and twisted

Close the gate now

Torch the exits

Rest the rage

Hush their beat

The latent looming

Calm the crowd

The noise will come

This is the morning

No one wakes to

This is the swansong

Few will hum
