ClientBriefOrObjective
Jarritos is a Mexican soda brand that comes in eleven exotic flavors. Due to limited distribution, they’re generally sold one at a time rather than in multi-packs. Our client challenged us to increase rate of sale and to give consumers a reason to buy more than one. Jarritos has a dedicated multi-generational Hispanic core, and is trying to grow affinity with a general market of Millennials. The overall brand strategy of Jarritos is to Add Flavor To Life. We set out to create something with stopping power at the point of purchase that aligned with our strategy.
Implementation
To achieve this increase in rate-of-sale, we invented the Jarritos Double Straw: Two straws wrapped together to custom-fit Jarritos’ glass bottles. It allows consumers to mix and match any two flavors together for a more creative and customizable experience. Each Jarritos costs around a dollar. Each Double Straw only costs about 25¢ to make. Those interested in experiencing the Double Straw can pick one up for free at their local convenience store. Consumers double their typical purchase in order to try it.
Outcome
While still early in its lifecycle of awesomeness, the Double Straw has already yielded great results. On its own, this clever little invention instantly increased the Jarritos product line by 500%. Their original 11 flavors can now be mixed and matched to create 55 new flavors. They’re almost as fun to name and talk about as they are to drink. And Jarritos’ 2 million Facebook fans have joined the conversation, in English & Español, commenting on new Flavor suggestions and finding out how they can get their own Double Straws and start discovering their own favorite flavors.
Relevancy
In a world of boring 2-for-1 deals, the Double Straw encourages additional purchases in a fresh, interactive way and gives the customer credit for pairing interesting flavors on their own.
Everything about Jarritos goes beyond the obvious. They only use natural sugar and never high fructose corn syrup. They come in old-school glass bottles. And they come in exotic flavors like Guava and Tamarind and Pineapple. Jarritos prides itself in doing things that Big Cola wouldn’t do and the Double Straw aligns with this point of view.
